Through this Term, the Group reaffirms its irrevocable commitment to fight racism and to act as an agent of transformation in society. A little more than six months after the event, in addition to the signing of this term, the Group has already compensated all members of the victim’s family, reformulated the security model in its stores and has been putting into practice the other commitments made publicly since November to combat racism and promote equity.
The actions already initiated by Grupo Carrefour Brasil and confirmed by the term are focused on the promotion of education, through educational grants and professional qualification, the entrepreneurship of black people and the development of sociocultural projects, with the purpose of combating structural racism in Brazil. All initiatives will be widely publicized and verified by an external audit.
The agreement established is valid for three years and foresees an investment of BRL$ 115 million.
“The signed Term does not reduce the irreparable loss of a life, but it is one more measure taken with the purpose of helping to prevent new tragedies like this from happening again. With this new step, Grupo Carrefour Brasil reinforces its anti-racist stance, expanding its policy to fight discrimination and violence, as well as the promotion of human rights in all its stores”, says Noël Prioux, president of Grupo Carrefour Brasil.
The initiatives confirmed by the Conduct Adjustment Term – TAC
One of the highlights is the actions aimed at education. A considerable part of the financial resources will be destined to the granting of scholarships for black people, in terms of higher education and graduate programs. There will also be scholarships aimed at foreign language learning, innovation and technology, with a special focus on training young professionals for the job market. Altogether, there will be more than 10 thousand scholarships. “We understand that the investment in scholarships is necessary in order to generate more opportunities and increase the employability of black people,” says Cristiane Lacerda, the Group’s Human Development Director.
The action plan also includes the promotion of entrepreneurship among black people and business acceleration. There is also the implementation of a Zero Tolerance policy, continuous training of all professionals working at Grupo Carrefour Brasil regarding racial literacy and the fight against all types of discrimination and violence, as well as the strengthening of the company’s whistleblower channel. All three actions are already being implemented at the Company.
